Dear Parents,
This week the students solved a real mystery: Who took the cookies from the cookie jar? As part of this hands-on learning project the students revisited school locations like main office, library and cafeteria and discovered fingerprints as part of clues left by the perpetrator. We learned how to take, analyze, classify and investigate types of fingerprints and ....through some good old fashioned investigation we found out that the Grade 2 teacher: Ms. Perkins had our cookies.
I would like to thank the amazing Elboya staff and Ms. Perkins in particular for playing along and helping us learn.
Hope you have a fantastic weekend,
Ms. Dilov

Dear Parents,
We had such an amazing week at school! Our police liaison- Constable
Mark visited the classroom. He was very patient with all the cool stories and
answered all the amazing questions. He taught us how to recognize real
policemen and explained about different tools on his tool belt. Cst. Mark said
that many of his tools are commonly used in the classroom like his pencil and
notebook and encouraged our students to keep working on their literacy skills. Many
of the students indicated a strong interest in becoming involved in the Calgary
Police Services. Cst. Mark promised to be back and help us learn more about
safety.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Dilov

Dear Parents,
This week was dedicated on learning about self-regulation
and emotions. We read “The Colour Monster” and learned to identify six emotions
and what colors are associated with them, for example: green –calm, blue- sad, red-
anger, pink- love. Our OT (Occupational therapist) demonstrated the power of “Stop
and Think” and played a few games that required extra attentions, stopping and
thinking. We started working on a large showcase of our learning, displayed on
our bulletin board in the hallway.
You probably have received the shapes books: “I see shapes’
and ‘I see 3D shapes’. Please remind your child to use their index finger and
look at the words. Next week, we will continue our geometric exploration with
hands-on tasks and fun games.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Dilov

Happy New Year!
Dear Parents,
Happy new year and welcome back to school! Our first week
was very exciting as we received a very special gift… our new water/ craft
table. THANK YOU! We turned it into an aquarium and rumour has it there might be
a shark swimming around. We’ll have to investigate further and we will try to
discover it.
Mother nature seems to be sending us through a cold snap
that will likely last all week. Please dress your children appropriately with snow
pants, boots, hats, mittens and proper jackets. We will try to minimize the
time spend outside but during dismissal times, your child may have to be
outside for up to 10 minutes.
Home reading: Please remind your child to exchange
to books every day. It’s essential for their developing reading skills.
Stay warm this weekend!
Ms .Dilov
